Chennai VAC Biometrics

My VAC appointment was on 25 Jan 2026 at 2:30 PM. I reached the center quite early, around 11:00 AM (Sunday). The center opens around 12:00 PM, and the security staff manages entry based on appointment slots. They first allowed people with 1:00 PM appointments, then 1:30 PM, and by around 1:15 PM, I was also allowed to enter smoothly. The process inside was very organized and efficient. A locker facility is available inside the center, which costs 50 (cash only)--quite convenient if you're carrying extra items. Once inside, the entire biometrics process took hardly 10 minutes. The staff was professional and the flow was quick with minimal waiting time. You only need three documents - Original passport, Appointment confirmation letter, DS-160 confirmation page

Poor management at the main door. People are asked to stand in a queue like goats. There is space inside the premises also but they want people to stand on road jamming the traffic. All AC were switched off, only few fans were installed. Staff were very supportive and humble. Took me 2 hours for in n out. It's takes not more than 15min at Delhi VAC so I was very disappointed. NOTE: No mobile, electronic gadgets allowed, you can pay Rs50 and keep it in the xerox shop. Bags trolley not allowed. Total experience: chaotic. I will try not to book appointment here in future. Staff was supportive which was great thing. Pro tip: VAC center is at the back of the building. book hotel - Mango Hill , the Park chennai Hotel which are 5-10min walk Hotel Cute orange is 20 steps away from the VAC center. Lunch: have brunch at Jr Kuppanna which is 2-3 walk from VAC and tasty food. I stayed in Mango hill which is a decent hotel.

I had my appointment for biometrics. The process is smooth and controlled. Tips to other applicants - Arrive at max 30 mins earlier than your slot to join the queue outside. There is no place to sit or no shades as well (only few trees). 1. No electronic items are allowed upstairs. There is a locker facility downstairs (Take Rs 50, cash only and please provide exact change). They have xerox, photo and printout facility for emergencies and DS-160 corrections (charge exhorbitant, suggest doing blinkit print) 2. On 1st floor, you will be made to stand in a queue (like temple darshan lines row of 2-3), takes around 20 mins here, depends on crowd and luck. 3. On top floor, you will enter the VAC via stairs (lift available for elderly). After security check, They will cross verify both appointment and DS-160 twice (Update your new/corrected DS-160 here) and add a sticker at backside of passport - takes around 15-20 mins based on crowd. 4. Lastly, biometrics will be taken - photo and fingerprints. Post biometrics, stamp on the DS-160 confirmation page will be checked to validate completion of process before leaving. Overall process takes 45mins-1 hour, if everything is smooth.

The overall experience wasn't great. I had to wait in line outside for about 30 minutes, then was asked to wait on the ground floor, again standing for another 45 minutes before being called to the first floor. The biometric process itself took around 20 minutes. The long waiting time and lack of clear communication made the process quite tiring. Time slot taken 1PM, overall ended around 2:30 PM or so.

Biometrics collection process was very smooth it completed in 20 mins. You just need to bring current passport, DS160 printout & aplication confirmation printout. If you applied more than 1 year ago you need to renew the application. Many people didn't know this including me. The Xerox shop in ground floor will help you with this and any corrections in details. But they are charging 250rs. Also you can keep your bags at the Xerox shop for a nominal charge of 50rs. But the Xerox shop will only accept cash that too exact change. They will SCAM you by not returning change. If you give 500rs for keeping that bag then your 450 is gone. Better bring change and also renew DS160 if you applied 1 yr ago. Also there is no parking space available for bike/car better take cab/auto

I had an appointment at 12:00 PM and reached the center around 11:20 AM. At the entrance, they checked my appointment confirmation and allowed me inside smoothly. In the parking area, there is a Xerox center where you can safely deposit your mobile phone for 50. They provide a token in return, which is convenient. After that, I proceeded to the 2nd floor, where the staff verified my DS-160 confirmation and guided me through the biometric process. The staff was helpful and the process was well organized. I completed the entire procedure by 11:50 AM--well before my scheduled appointment time. Overall, a very smooth and efficient experience.

Smooth and efficient VAC experience! Everything was quick and hassle-free. I arrived for my 8:30 AM appointment and was allowed entry as early as 7:50 AM. Important: If your DS-160 is over a year old, get a new one also and both needs to be carried (VAC often requires it!) The basement locker vendor offers printing and DS-160 editing services to make this easy incase if you haven't done the update and only aware that the DS-160 was older than a year (the vendor charges 250 for editing and printing. Payment only in cash) VAC Staff were prompt, empathetic, and efficient, dynamically adjusting counters to keep queues short.

I had a 2 PM slot and reached at 1:40 PM. Do not arrive more than 30 minutes before your scheduled time. Once you enter the gate, security will ask for your slot and direct you to the basement parking area. You will form the first set of lines near the xerox shops. There are usually 5 to 6 lines for people who are half an hour to one hour before their slot. Be very patient. If you are carrying a shoulder bag, phone, laptop or Apple Watch, you must deposit them at the xerox shop before going upstairs. They charge 50 rupees. After going up to the ground floor, you will enter a smaller room with three rows. This is the second set of lines, which then moves to the third set of lines. The next section has about 10 rows with 10 people each. They call 10 people at a time to go to another floor. There you will stand in another line with around 20 to 30 people. Security will check your passport and DS-160. After that, your documents will be reviewed twice. Keep your DS-160 and latest passport ready and make sure your DS-160 has no issues. Next, you will be asked to stand in another line for biometrics and the photo. The entire process takes about 2 to 2.5 hours. Patience is very important. Avoid unnecessary conversations with the staff. They are not helpful and can be rude. If you do not know Tamil, avoid trying to talk unless needed. Do not book a flight, bus or train for the evening. Book something late at night instead. We missed our train because of the delay. Be prepared to stand for about 3 hours in total. Good luck. Also, avoid taking the auto rickshaws in front of the VAC center. They charge very high fares.
