Passport Seva Kendra(PSK) Tambaram

Today we went to renew our passport. We entered the centre at 10.20 and came out at 11.00 . As senior citizens we were shown courtesy by everyone at each stage and got smooth service in all sections. Thanks for the excellent service provided.

Adding with Madhavan comment, I had my passport document verification here in same January 2026. There are 15 counters in Section A, 5 counters in Section B, and only 3 counters in Section C. The facility provides proper drinking water and an air-conditioned waiting area, which is appreciable. The staff members are working efficiently and processing applications quickly; however, due to the limited number of counters in Sections C, the waiting time is considerably long. If any government officials review this feedback, I kindly request them to consider increasing the number of counters in C at least to reduce waiting time and improve overall efficiency. It is really crowd and just because of that one section is having the problem, the entire crew members are affected and overall Tambaram branch is not getting the credit whatever they did for A and B section..

Passport office is the place where most of people who brings several billions of revenue from overseas start their journey, and they pay hefty amount as processing fees as well. The Premise, the way it cares and treats it's visitors or customers should be impeccable. Unfortunately, in reality it is far from that and very disappointing. There is no parking except just few for two wheelers that too on the road side blocking the road. Customers including those with young kids are made to stand in hot sun, filled with pollution of noise, dust, smell, congestion. At least a protected, covered place with proper seating arrangement should be made available to the visitors who wait for their turn to enter the building and the dependents who wait for their parents, senior citizens, kids. Making applicants, dependents stand for hours in above worse condition is unacceptable by any standard. Hope concerned official look into this and make sure the customers are treated and cared better with at least basic amenities added on priority.

Excellent service by both TCS employees and Passport office staffs. It all took around 1.5 - 2 hours for a normal passport renewal. Ensure documents are perfect and report to passport as per schedule. Keep watching for your token number. Process is below: 1. Initial counter/Token allocation: They do Initial verification of documents based on your document needed and assign Token. 2. A-counters: here they verify your details in system and take photographs and fingerprints. Please ensure all the details that will be printed on passport are correct. You can see all the details on screen facing towards you. 3. B-Counters: Here government executives check you details against your government recognised proofs furnished by you. 4. C or APO counter: This is the last counter where your new passport is approved. Note: Tokenisation is random and queue priority is given to Senior citizens and kids first for normal passport. Do not upset if token number after yours is called before you. All these go by standard operating procedure.

This place exactly on the back side of the Tambaram west bus stop. Anyone can guide if you are near by this place. Please be there at least 15 mins before the scheduled time. Even if are late also, don't panic, you will be still allowed. Take all the originals like adhar card, pan card, driving licence and degree certificates for fresh Passport. If it is reissue of the expired passport without any changes,then your adhaar card and existing passports with xerox is enough. Make sure your xerox copies are clear. If it is not clear, then u need to take another xerox. You have xerox facility inside the office and also the snacks counter. After getting in, you will be given with token number written on the xerox copies, then u can get in to 1st floor and watch the monitor for your token number. Token will start with N, S and T. Normal, senior citizen and takkal, that's what it means. You need to come across the 3 counters to complete the process. A counter will take the photo and fingerprints and uploading the photo copies. B counter will verify the proofs. C counter will be final one to approve your Passport. The entire process will not take more than one hour. In my case, it took bit longer time all due to less staffing in C counter. Overall the process is simple and nice arrangements. Take all the originals for the safer side.

I have been to this PSK multiple times in the past. Based on my experience, if you get a morning slot, chances are your work will get done quickly with not much delay. If you end up getting an afternoon slot, then there could be a wait time of 2-3 hours from the time you enter the premises and you complete all the verifications. Parking is not available here - do not come in own vehicle expecting parking space. Photocopy shops are located in and around the PSK, so you can take any last minute printouts. The PSK itself is well maintained, however due to limited seating, you might find yourself standing if there is any unforeseen delay. The staff here know their job and are mostly prompt in clearing the verifications. Just be sure to visit with all relevant documents to have a smooth experience.

Firstly, the parking facility is a mess. Only street parking, first come first served. Secondly, the traffic though this place makes it far worse to do anything from find parking to move around the place. Then, when you go in the two people at the doorway tell you that you need an appointment to get in when you tell them you have come to get yourself an appointment. The gent is decent and provides some details on how to get an appointment (go to the municipality building a few streets away for Aadhar related appointments), but the lady is brusque and lacked the flexibility to handle non-standard queries, relying on repetitive scripts, after which she turns away as though her duty is done. True that they may be getting lots of people per day but it would help greatly if the people at the door are trained properly to deal with it. All in all, a not so positive an experience as compared to how it used to function a few years ago. The quality of service has certainly gone down a lot here.
