We visited Fernhills Heritage Hotel, Ooty as a group of 20 people. Unfortunately, our experience was highly disappointing.
Except for the ambience and heritage setting, nothing met expectations. The starters were very ordinary, lacking both taste and presentation. The Hyderabad biryani served was especially disappointing and did not resemble any authentic biryani in flavor, aroma, or preparation.
Considering the reputation and pricing of a heritage property, the overall food quality and dining experience were far below standard. As a group, we expected much better service and cuisine.
Overall, it was a very poor experience, and we would not recommend this place at all.
Stayed for 5days at this property. A sorry state of affairs and a shame in the name of hospitality. Old palace and royalty but poorly maintained. Staff are those with zero training of any kind. They don't know how to speak and treat guests. Worst part is the food which is always served cold and poorly cooked. No staff attends to you at the breakfast table or clears off the plates from the room. Breakfast buffet is really bad and same food is served everyday and has no taste and is served cold. The only bread toaster of this palace never toasts!!!
If you make the mistake of asking for hot water bags for your kids since the room heaters are ancient and just alive then they ring the bell at 11pm and have no qualms about it.
Service by the staff is a big 0.
Even if they offer you free rooms to stay please don't make the mistake of staying at their place ..
Heritage group of hotels should withdraw than bring a bad name to their hotel chain.
Overall, the hotel is poorly maintained. They don't provide 24hrs running hot water in a place like Ootty. So it's definitely a thumbs down especially for people travelling with kids. The room heater doesn't work. And it takes ages for the staff to attend to your room service call.
The worst decision of my life when I choose this resort for my special moment "Candle light dinner" their food and service sucks, they don't have any guest or visitors just pretends like they are super busy.
The menu is wrost, local dhaba has more varieties then their menu. I request @makemytrip to stop ruin people special moment by offering candle light dinner at this ghost place.
Fern Hills Hotel in Ooty is truly worth a visit. I'm not sure why people call it haunted--there's nothing spooky about it. The property was once the summer palace of the royal Wadiyar family of Mysore, and it has been preserved in its original charm with only minimal modern upgrades. If you're looking to experience the grandeur of a heritage royal palace, this is a beautiful place to stay. Even if you're not staying overnight, you can always drop by for lunch/dinner. The property is vast and, although the staff may seem fewer in number for such a large space, it's likely because guest traffic is low due to these unnecessary haunted rumours. Don't let that deter you--ignore the stories and visit to enjoy a truly memorable experience.
We did not stay here but went to the restaurant to have lunch. The food, service, ambience, were all excellent. Our servers, were exceptional--polite, attentive, and very thoughtful in taking care of our needs. Our family follows a vegetarian and vegan diet, and we were delighted to find delicious options to choose from.
I would have gladly given a 5-star rating if it hadn't been for the inconvenience with payment. We are visiting from the US and rely on our Visa card for larger expenses. Unfortunately, they were unable to process our Visa card, even though most establishments in Ooty--from Modern to A2B--accept it without issue. This caused us significant inconvenience. We were just about able to make a cash payment. Even our indian visa card for not work here.
It's a wonderful Experience. One of the best places i ever stayed. When i searched for this property some of the reviews about this place were "spooky, Haunted, no perfect painting, floor sounds , Don't Go there" like that. Don't fall for those comments you must see this place by yourself. I stayed there and I didn't see any ghosts or any other paranormal activities. This is a 200 years old mansion, obviously it doesn't have perfect painting and a perfect floor. This is a piece of History. The ambience, food , rooms and everything was excellent. If you are lucky you will see bison. Special mention to the staff and manager. They were friendly and cooperative and made us good food. It's also a shooting location.
